Pressing & Cleaning

Pressing is a non-destructive process that uses controlled heat, humidity, and pressure to flatten a comic book. It safely removes non-color-breaking defects like dents, bends, ripples, and spine rolls.
While no one can guarantee a specific grade, pressing and dry cleaning are the most effective ways to improve a book’s structural condition before grading. Removing surface dirt and flattening creases often results in a higher grade from CGC.
No. CGC explicitly states that pressing and dry cleaning are not considered restoration because they do not add any foreign material to the book. Pressing will not trigger a purple “Restored” label.
Our standard turnaround time for pressing and cleaning is four to five weeks from the day we receive your books.
Cleaning removes surface dirt and smudges using dry erasers and pads. Pressing uses heat and pressure to flatten structural defects like bends and creases. Because cleaning involves handling the cover, we always follow it with a press to ensure the book is perfectly flat.
No. If a crease has broken the ink on the cover, pressing will flatten the crease so the book lies flat, but the white line where the ink broke will still be visible.
Yes, in most cases. A spine roll occurs when the pages shift and the spine loses its sharp fold. Pressing can realign the pages and flatten the spine back to its original position.

Restoration Removal

Our techniques are designed to be as non-destructive as possible. However, because the color touch was originally applied to hide a defect (like a color-breaking crease), removing the paint will expose the original defect. The book will look more honest, and it will be eligible for a universal grade, but the underlying wear will be visible.
While we use techniques specifically designed to avoid restoration flags, CGC is the final arbiter of all grading decisions. We cannot guarantee a specific label, but our methods align with CGC’s published standards for non-restorative care.
Yes. The process of removing tape or stains involves localized moisture or handling that can cause slight rippling in the paper. A full press is required afterward to ensure the book is perfectly flat and structurally sound.

CGC Submission

No. When you use our submission service, your books are submitted under our authorized account. You do not need to pay for an annual CGC membership.
No. The cost of pressing and cleaning is separate. When you select the CGC add-on, you will be responsible for the actual CGC grading fees, return shipping from CGC, and our handling fee. We provide a clear breakdown of these costs before submission.
If a slab arrives from CGC with a crack or defect, our return inspection process catches it. We will handle the communication with CGC to get the slab corrected before it is sent to you. If CGC damages a book during grading, they have their own liability policies which we will help you navigate.
Currently, our streamlined submission handling service is exclusively for CGC.
No. CGC’s grading times are strictly for their grading process. You must add our 4-5 week pressing turnaround time, plus shipping transit times, to get a complete estimate of when your books will return to you.
We process books in the order they are received to ensure every book gets the unhurried care it deserves. We do not offer a “skip the line” expedited pressing fee. However, if you have high-value books, CGC’s High Value and Unlimited tiers automatically process much faster once they reach Florida.
We handle the tracking. When your books leave our facility for Florida, we monitor the shipment. Once CGC logs them into their system, the grading clock begins.

Consignment & Selling

We focus on graded (CGC/CBCS) key issues, first appearances, and high-grade vintage books with an estimated value of $500 or more. We occasionally accept high-value raw books if they are significant keys.
We work with you to establish a fair market asking price based on recent verified sales data (GPA, GoCollect, eBay sold listings). We will agree on a minimum acceptable sale price before taking the book to a convention.
Once your book sells at a convention, we process the payment and issue your funds (minus the commission rate) within 5 to 7 business days.
If your book does not sell after an agreed-upon number of conventions, we will return the book to you safely. You only pay for the return shipping; there are no unsold fees.
While we evaluate collections of all sizes, we do not buy everything. We generally look for collections that contain a mix of key issues and desirable runs. If a collection consists entirely of low-demand overstock from the 1990s, we may pass, but we will try to refer you to someone who buys bulk.
We base our offers on current wholesale market rates. Because we are buying to resell, our offer will be a percentage of the retail value. This percentage varies depending on the desirability and condition of the books.
For significant collections located within the Southeast, we are often willing to travel for an in-person evaluation. For smaller collections or those located further away, we handle the initial evaluation via photos and email.
When you sell a collection, we buy the books outright and pay you immediately. Consignment is for individual, high-value key issues where we sell the book on your behalf at a convention and take a commission after the sale.

Shipping & Orders

We highly recommend insuring your package for the full replacement value of the books when shipping them to us. We are not responsible for books lost or damaged in transit by the carrier before they reach our facility.
Once your package arrives and is logged into our system, we will send you a confirmation email so you know your books are safe and in the queue.
No. The checkout process on our site only covers the cost of pressing, cleaning, and our handling fees. If you selected CGC Submission Handling, you will be billed separately for the actual CGC grading fees and return shipping once the books are ready to go to Florida.
You do not need to email us first to start a standard pressing order. Simply visit the Comic Services page, select your tier, and fill out the intake form.
We operate primarily via mail-in service, but we do accept in-person drop-offs at the comic conventions we attend throughout the Southeast. Follow our social media for our upcoming convention schedule.
